Coconut Fibre and Sawdust as Green Building Materials: A Laboratory Assessment on Physical and Mechanical Properties of Particleboards

This paper evaluates, via a laboratory assessment, the physical properties (BS EN 323:1993, BS 324) and mechanical performance 310:1993) of hybrid particleboards using agricultural wastes, namely coconut fibre sawdust. The process begins with preparation materials where they are sieved retained 5-mm sieve then oven-dried. particleboard mixed addition resin (urea formaldehyde) was sprayed hot pressed. press temperature set at 180 °C, content 8 wt.% design density 650 kg/m3 used in producing particleboard. percentage/ratio composition sawdust (SD) to (CF) varied ranging from 100SD:0CF 70SD:30CF, 50SD:50CF, 30SD:70CF, 0SD:100CF. Meanwhile, as for thickness boards, it categorised into three groups which 16 mm, 20 32 mm. were conditioned room seven days before being tested performances. results show that most optimum is 0% 100% (0SD:100CF) its 761.99 kg/m3, swelling 11.98%, water absorption 37.64%. With modulus elasticity 1510 N/mm2, rupture 17.8 internal bonding 1.08 satisfied universal standard Particleboard Type P3 312:2010.
